The Family Meal — Villa Jerada's Restaurant Series | Seattle
A series about the relationships behind the food.
In Moroccan culture, a guest is a crown. The Family Meal is our way of honoring that — sitting down with the chefs, butchers, and makers who bring Villa Jerada into their kitchens, and sharing a proper meal together.
About the Family Meal
Every restaurant has a tradition that rarely gets seen from the outside. At the end of a long shift, the kitchen sits down together and eats. No menu, no tickets, no guests. Just the people who made it happen. It's called the family meal — and it's one of the most honest expressions of hospitality there is.
At Villa Jerada, hospitality isn't a marketing idea. It's a value rooted in where we come from. In Moroccan culture, how you receive a guest says everything about who you are. You don't just feed people — you honor them.
The Family Meal is a video series built on that value. Each episode, we sit down with one of our restaurant partners — the chefs and kitchens who carry Villa Jerada spices into their cooking — and share a real meal together. We bring the spices. They bring everything else. And we talk honestly about food, craft, community, and what it means to build something worth building.
This is not a sponsored segment. It's a relationship, on camera.
Episode 01 — Beast & Cleaver
The Beast & Cleaver — Whole-Animal Butchery. James Beard Nominated. Ballard, Seattle
Beast & Cleaver is one of Seattle's most respected food institutions. A family-owned, whole-animal butcher shop and restaurant in the heart of Ballard, they've built their reputation on a single obsession: sourcing the best possible meat for their community and the planet.
Their approach is rooted in regenerative agriculture and whole-animal butchery — partnering with trusted local farms, around 80% within Washington state, to ensure every cut is ethically sourced, organically raised in practice, and kind to the environment. Nothing is wasted. Every part of the animal is honored. It's a philosophy that runs deeper than butchery — it's a way of seeing food and responsibility that Villa Jerada recognizes immediately.
Beast & Cleaver has been nominated for a James Beard Award, one of the most prestigious recognitions in American food. It's an honor that reflects not just the quality of what they make, but the integrity of how they make it.
They operate out of Ballard with multiple dining experiences — Little Beast, Le Beastro and The Peasant — each reflecting their commitment to craft, community, and doing things properly.
Beast & Cleaver has been part of our world for a while — and we've been part of theirs. Sitting down together for The Family Meal felt long overdue.
